The day begins at Howes State Park in Belpre.

The stage concludes at the Pennsboro B&O Depot in Pennsboro, West Virginia.

It's always an exciting day on the relay when we get to cross into a new state, and this stage doesn't make us wait long for the pleasure. From Belpre, a short jaunt on 5th Street brings us straight across the Ohio River and into Parkersburg, West Virginia. This also happens to be the largest city the ADT passes through in West Virginia, so we're starting big!

After crossing through the downtown and some less pleasant urban sprawl, we'll reach the trailhead for the North Bend Rail Trail, which will be our home for the next few days. This converted rail line offers some peaceful, easy walking, though that peace comes at the cost of services, which are few and far between. Make sure you don't leave Parkersburg with your coffers empty. Be ready for a few tunnels as well! You might be happy to have more of a light than your cell can provide.

The small town of Petroleum has a much-appreciated covered rest stop, so plan on breaking there, before pushing onto Cairo, where we're quite pleased to have a community reception awaiting us.

Refreshed (and maybe dried out just a little bit), we'll push on. We've reentered civilization. with more consistent landmarks. First comes North Bend State Park, the center of which is accessible just off route, followed by Ellensboro--after a couple more tunnels. The ADT cuts right between a DQ and a McDonald's. Make the right choice. One last, short leg delivers us into Pennsboro, where we'll end the day in style.

The elementary school sits practically on the ADT, so we'll be grateful for their help in getting us to the finish line at the old train depot!

Support: A support vehicle will be accessible at NBRT Happy Valley Trail Head (5.9 miles), Petroleum (23.2 miles), Cairo (30.2 miles), and Ellenboro (37.7 miles). Water will be available to top off bottles, along with all necessary participant gear. Food may be available for purchase in Parkersburg, Cairo, and Ellensboro.

Take Heed: Before joining the North Bend Rail Trail on the outskirts of Parkersburg, you'll be sharing surface streets with morning rush hour traffic.
