The day begins at Old Colona Park in Colona.

The stage concludes at the Spring Valley Veterans Memorial.

Following a couple stages with a fair bit of pavement, it's a joy to join the Hennepin Canal Parkway Trail today. Who needs navigation aids? Just follow the Hennepin, all day long, and enjoy!

The trail loops first around the town of Geneseo, though all services are off route, and then similarly passes north of Annawan. Purchasing food in either place requires a detour. On the trail itself, you'll pass by occasional locks and campgrounds, some offering pit toilets or water taps, and a whole lot of corn. It's the same story later with the town of Wyanet, except that you'll bypass it on the southside this time. The canal tilts southward from there, offering lots of locks, before bending back to the east near historic Tiskilwa. The last leg of our journey on the Hennepin wiggles north and south through a series of curves, before delivering us into Bureau Junction.

Alas, a gap exists in the marvelous trail network across this part of Illinois, necessitating a shift over to busier surface streets for the remainder of the day. Illinois Route 29 leads us towards DePue, and from there we transition to a backroad that approaches the Illinois River for the final approach into Spring Valley.
