Start Information:

The day begins in Council Grove at the Last Chance Store.

End Information:

The stage concludes in Lawrence at the Watkins Museum of History.

Details:

This long stage splits into two uneven sections. The first is an absolute delight, following the Flint Hills Nature Trail for 70+ miles through beautiful scenery, often well removed from even the faintest rumble of auto traffic. A few small communities dot the trail, like Bushong, Allen, and Admire, but Osage City provides the largest and best-serviced of potential stops along the way.

By the time we conclude our journey on the Flint Hills Nature Trail, participants will have earned a good refueling opportunity, and the city of Ottawa provides a perfect spot for that. This is also a transition point, as the eastward progression on the unpaved trail now gives way to a northward push on paved roads, generally paralleling US Route 59. If the journey through this section might leave something to be desired, the destination makes it all worth while. The City of Lawrence, home to the University of Kansas, is a delightful college town, and we're happy to be welcomed in by the folks at the Watkins Museum.
