The day begins on the eastern outskirts of Lincoln at the GSK Consumer Health Inc Trailhead.

The stage concludes at Sarpy County Fairgrounds in Springfield.

The day begins on a peaceful, relaxing note, following the Mopac East Trail almost immediately out of Lincoln and into cornfields, winding leisurely through the countryside. The trail passes through the village of Walton, across U.S. 34, and into Eagle where the nearby Casey's might coax you into a 4-block detour for a slice of breakfast pizza. The trail gradually bends northeastward, looping around the town of Elmwood--home to the prairie author Bess Streeter Aldrich--before concluding just after tiny Wabash.

The ADT joins 334th heading due north, first on a dirt track and then paved, before merging onto Nebraska Highway 66. This feeds into the second leg of the Mopac Trail, featuring one of the day's major highlights--the crossing of the Platte River on the Lied Bridge. This is a broad pedestrian bridge that offers exceptional views of the river. Plan on a break, sitting on one of the bridge's many covered benches.

This second leg of the trail is not quite as delightful as the first, given that it consistently parallels rural highways, including Nebraska Highways 31 and 50. Nonetheless, it's not that long, and in the final approach towards Springfield it bends away from the highway, offering a quiet final roll into this very welcoming town.
