The day begins just south of Central City at the Dark Island Trailhead.

The stage concludes on the western outskirts of Lincoln at West Lincoln Park.

The most newsworthy development today is our departure from the Platte River. Ever since Denver, this has been a constant presence on the relay, and while this won't be our last sight of it, we're bidding farewell for a few days. This is also our most settlement-heavy stage in quite a while, with a series of small towns offering added comforts on a day when they're badly needed, given the length of the ride.

The ADT heads east through Polk and then turns north through Stromsburg, the Swede Capital of Nebraska with a lovely town square. Soon after, the ADT resumes its eastward trajectory, merging onto U.S. Route 81 for an extended stretch. At an early bend in the highway, this leads into Osceola, where we'll stop for a well-earned break.

Continuing along US 81, we'll roll through Shelby. When 81 turns northward, we continue straight, transitioning onto Nebraska 92. This skirts the southern edge of Rising City. Eventually, we'll leave 92 in order to turn south through Brainard, after which we'll gratefully join the Oak Creek Trail. If only it were longer! The trail concludes in Valparaiso, where you're advised to pause and catch your breath. After that, the final push into Lincoln begins, following Nebraska Highway 79 southward and then merging onto U.S. 34, before switching over to side streets in order to navigate around some more intensive interchanges. Try to beat rush hour, if you can!
