Start Information:

The day begins at Gold Hill Trailhead on Colorado State Highway 9, between Breckenridge and Frisco.

End Information:

The stage concludes in Montezuma.

Details:

This is a strenuous stage that includes a pair of ascents and very limited support. The ADT concludes its time on the Colorado Trail this morning, climbing to a saddle above Muggins Gulch and then descending across the North and Middle Forks of the Swan River. 19.6 miles into the stage, the Colorado and Continental Divide Trails part ways; the ADT continues with the CDT, doubling back sharply to the northeast.

A short, stiff climb follows to Whale Peak (13,078 feet). The trail then passes north of Handcart Peak and crosses Webster Pass on the Continental Divide. At this point, the ADT breaks with the CDT and follows Webster Pass Rd towards Montezuma.

Support: A support vehicle will only be accessible at Middle Fork Swan Road (15.1 miles). Water will be available to top off bottles, along with all necessary participant gear. 

Take Heed: Be prepared with sufficient supplies to get you through--especially if the support vehicle is unable to reach you due to unforeseen road conditions.
