We depart from River Bend Park. Note that the park has a $7 entrance fee.

End Information:

Estimated arrival time: 1-2pm. Note that this is for runners and cyclists. Walkers would arrive later.

The day ends in Auburn at Overlook Park.

Details:

We continue on the Jedediah Smith / American River Bike Trail through the early morning, proceeding along the south side of the river. We'll cross over via the Hazel Ave Bridge just before the Nimbus Dam, continuing along the north/west side of Lake Natoma. Just before Folsom Dam, the trail swings west briefly and then north, leading to Beals Point Recreation Area.

Warning: Ongoing dam projects may result in trail closures in the section leading from Folsom Dam through Beals Point and Granite Bay, though it is possible to work around these by following adjacent mountain bike trails or the Auburn Folsom Road.

From Beals Point, cyclists and runners/hikers will take different approaches to Auburn. Cyclists will follow Auburn Folsom Road the whole way. It's not terrible. Finally, once in Auburn, turn right on High St, right again on Pleasant Ave, and continue straight as it becomes Pacific Ave. Overlook Park will be on your left.

Runners/Hikers, meanwhile, have a more enjoyable journey ahead, continuing on a trail around Folsom Lake, Granite Bay, and the American River. Finally, the route climbs inland, through the Oregon Hill Parking Lot, and along the Cardiac Bypass Trail and Pioneer Express Trail, before concluding at Overlook Park. This is the route that is represented in the GPX track for this stage.

Support: A support vehicle will be accessible in Sunrise Recreational Area (6 miles, toilets, water), Black Miners Bar (13.5 miles, toilets, water), Beals Point (17.5 miles), and Rattlesnake Ramp (30.5 miles). Water will be available in the vehicle to top off bottles, and it will also be possible for participants to have some of their own supplies transported. Plan accordingly--opportunities to purchase food are supremely limited; the most convenient option is a mini-mart and Baja Fresh near Folsom Dam.
