Estimated arrival time: 3pm
We'll conclude the day on the northwestern corner of William Land Regional Park. Street-side parking is available throughout the park.
This is the first long-distance ride of the relay, moving across the Delta as we transition from the Bay Area to Sacramento.
Event: The City of Antioch will send us off in style, with a morning reception featuring local civic leaders.
The first hour mostly follows the Delta de Anza Regional Trail, which is quite bike-friendly, before reaching the western edge of Oakley.
Event: The City of Oakley will offer a refreshment stop for participants at Antioch/Oakley Regional Shoreline around 8:30am.
Fortified with some extra calories and better hydrated, we'll tackle the most intimidating part of the day--the crossing of the Antioch Bridge. This is a narrow crossing on a well-traveled road. If any participants are concerned about taking this on a bike, please get in touch. We can also use the support vehicle as a screen, holding back traffic for this 1-mile crossing.
The ride through the Delta follows. Careful attention is important, as surfaces can be uneven in places. We follow quieter backroads through the opening section through Isleton and onward to Walnut Grove / Locke.
Event: A hosted visit to the Locke Boarding House Museum. Stamp available for NHA Passport
Just before Courtland, the route crosses the Sacramento River and joins River Road, which brings more traffic and requires renewed vigilance.
From Clarksburg, we're in the home stretch--one last push along River Road, the crossing of the Freeport Bridge, and finally the Del Rio Trail leading into the outskirts of Sacramento.
Support: A support vehicle will be accessible in Oakley (7.5 miles), Isleton (30 miles), Locke (39.6 miles), and Clarksburg (55 miles), and also on-call for road-side support. Water will be available in the vehicle to top off bottles, and it will also be possible for participants to have some of their own supplies transported.
Please note: While in East Bay Parks property, as you are at the beginning of the day, if help is needed, you should first check in with ADTS staff for non-emergencies. For emergencies, or if you can't reach ADTS staff, you should contact EB Parks staff as opposed to calling 911: Emergency: 510-881-1121; Non-emergency: 510-881-1833. (You're welcome to call 911, of course, but EB Parks staffers will be able to identify your location and reach you sooner.)
